The name "Coolum" comes from the local Undumbi word 'Gulum' or 'Guloom', which means "blunt" or "headless." This describes Mount Coolum, since it's missing a peak. There’s this Aboriginal legend where Ninderry knocks off Coolum’s head and it ends up in the ocean as Mudjimba Island.

Coolum has always been the home of the Inabara or Yinneburra clan of the Undanbi Tribe, part of the larger Kabi Kabi group. The first Europeans to stumble upon Coolum were either shipwrecked or just passing through back in 1823.

For a long time, cane farming was the big thing here until tourism took off in the 1960s. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, working-class families from Brisbane started building holiday cottages here and by the ‘70s, more diverse people began moving in, shaping Coolum into the welcoming place it is today.

Coolum is bordered by the Hinterland to the west, Noosa to the north, and Maroochydore to the south. Coolum and its surrounding suburbs has a lot to offer and it's a beautiful region.
